Last week, the FDA announced the recall of Dingo Chip Twists “Chicken in the Middle” dog treats, as contaminated with amantadine.
Amantadine is an antiviral drug used by humans and not approved for use in animal food.
I have not seen any press release from the company but understand that the FDA has labeled this event a Class III recall. By classifying this event a Class III, United Pet Group in Cincinnati, OH, can choose whether to issue a press release or not on the recall. Personally, I don’t agree with allowing the company to make a choice not to release the recall information and should take responsibility for the Amantadine contamination. BTW – This product is made in China.
The recalled products are called Dingo Chip Twists “Chicken in the Middle” dog chew treats and include two different package sizes being recalled:
- 6 pack with “Best by Date 5/16/2017”
- 16 pack with “Best by Date 12/27/2015” and “5/16/2017”
The recalled product was distributed to the following states:
California, Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin
